A renowned jazz vocalist from Cleveland, Ohio, Vanessa was mentored by the great Etta James and Savannah Jazz Hall of Famer, Irene Reid. Three of her albums have reached #1 on the charts and she is known for her horn-like abilities to interact with musicians. Her most recent release, Full Circle, is a joint project with saxophonist Don Braden. She is also a talented lyricist, writing songs for Frank Foster, Wayne Shorter, and Tadd Dameron.

Rubin will front the Savannah Jazz Orchestra co-directed by Savannah Hall of Fame Members Randall Reese and Teddy Adams.
